X Factor PR machine - too obvious this year

I can't be the only person that's noticed the not-too-subtle barrage of "leaks" from "insiders" at the X Factor. It's probably not the first year it's happened, but it occurs with such precision that on a Monday morning you can predict the headlines.

Producer favourite Katie Waissel criticised for ridiculous outfits? Come Monday morning an 'insider' has 'leaked' that she hates being quirky and prefers plain white dresses!

Aiden Grimshaw slightly camp? No fear - an 'insider' has 'leaked' that he's getting it on with Cher!

Matt Cardle rumoured to be gay? No he isn't, an 'insider' has 'leaked' that he's sleeping with Katie!

News stories that Katie is unpopular with the other girls in the X Factor house? All untrue, she's been "papped" by "anonymous photographers" "having a laugh" with Trey-C and Rebecca in Covent Garden.

I mean, I know they want to control what's written about their acts, but a bit of subtlety would help. I'm more surprised that the papers take these spoon-fed "leaks" although I guess there's a cash sum involved somewhere.

But it generates CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT!!

Content for Xtra Factor

Content for X Magazine

Content for FFactor

And more content = more ads alongside that content = more MONEY!

They seem to have finally given up any pretence this year about it being a singing contest and its now basically Big Brother with a bit of kareoke.

I don't remember in Leona's year the constantly daily leaks from 'sources' at the actual house about romances and fights and bust ups; I bet next year they will start filming the contestant house so it actually is Big Brother.

And WE GET IT PRODUCERS,you want us to like Katy and Cher,it's so forced. What I don't get with the Katie drama is the judges are all 'mean British public give her a second chance' but what did the Xfactor expect? They showed her saying :

" “I want to be a legacy. I’m not sure what type of idol I am as there isn’t anyone out there in the market like me right now. I don’t think there ever has been. I want to be a star in music, film, fashion, arts, medicine, everything." and barely stumbling through auditions yet getting through, then are suprised that people don't like her? If they didnt want to invite criticism of contestants, they shouldn't have made this year so 'personality' led.

Gawd, everytime Cher and Katie perform,we're gona be told how 'brave' they are for 'going out there',and them being half-decent will be elevated to 'amazing'.

The likes of TreyC and John are practically invisible in comparison, even before the live shows the producers shamelessly blanked loads of contestants in favour of a chosen few. I remember thinking watching judges houses "who the hell are they?" at the girl with the curly afro and the girl described as 'burger chain worker', as they'd barely been mentioned in previous shows.

It also killed the tension completely. Who will be in the final three? Will it be quirky Aiden from Blackpool? Will it be bonkers Nicolo from Italy? Or will it be random chinese man you've never seen before?

I think the producers were under the false assumption that Katie's interviews etc would make her look cool and quirky. After all Lady Gaga is not exactly humble and retiring. The problem is Gaga has actually released some decent music and is not a desperate wannabe.

What I find confusing is if they genuinely want us to LIKE Katie, they've gone such an unusual way about it. The judges have heaped nothing but praise upon her, and yet the clips and interviews chosen by the producers paint her as totally unlikable. If those are the BEST clips they could find to make her seem nice, then she really must be a total tool.

Maybe they're being really, really clever and deliberately playing up her naive arrogance to start with so that she can be seen to learn as the series progresses. So long as she doesn't get voted off (and there are plenty of no-hopers to shield her in the early weeks), eventually the public will warm to her as she starts to redeem herself and The Real Katie emerges. The viewing public loves someone who goes on a journey.

I understand the need to "create" stories for the press, but why must they all have to do with the contestants sexing one another? I mean, honestly, does anyone want to picture all of these people getting together after rehearsals to have a massive orgy?

There's so many more possibilities - Treyc accuses Mary of eating too many trans-fats, Cher lights a match while Katie sprays her three bottles of hair product around her head one morning, Aiden and Paije engage in an out-right fist fight (causing the make-up artists a crisis for this weekend's show!) - that are funnier and don't disgrace the contestant's name like the label 'slut' or 'whore' might.

I don't know why they haven't done this yet, they fork out millions on a luxurious house for the 'contestants' (housemates) and we don't get to see any of it.

The ratings would be amazing, Monday to Friday "Xtra Factor" and Saturday to Sunday is just regular X-Factor.

I'm surprised they've never used in house footage before, they could bang out an extra hour show on a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon of them in the house rehearsing etc and watch the advertising ca$h roll in

There's a stupidly blatant bit of "Katie and Cher love each other really!!!!" bit of plugging in this week's X Factor magazine. Two whole pages devoted to it in fact.
