X Factor: The Band

He/Him
Yeah, X Factor has never been that good at naming bands ddd. I wasn't even that enamoured with Little Mix as a name when they first changed it. The only one I've liked off the mark is Four of Diamonds.

So what happens to the boys now? Just discarded with a one way bus ticket home?

It seems very cruel to do this to a bunch of teenagers, even by X Factor standards. The sad part is had they been on a normal series I think they would have built up quite a following as they had potential, certainly the best boyband we've seen on the show since Union J. Reece and Fred looked like they had been genetically modified and raised in a lab to be in a boyband and Jed had an amazing voice.

I thought in the final they were trying to push them by giving them the "underdog" edit but the girls had it in the bag all along. What have they actually won by the way? Is there a single coming out or not? Both groups will sadly sink without a trace.

I would be very surprised if Simon didn’t sign the boys. The girls have won a record deal with Simon/Syco but I hope they actually spend time developing them but not letting them disappear off the face of the earth like they love to do .

I hope they give the boys a shot, there is a gap in the market for a new boyband and I think they have real potential. It's just a shame they can't compete in a normal series with 2 months of live shows to build a fanbase, I guess they wouldn't want to do that next year (assuming there is a normal series next year).

I mean if United Vibe, who came in 12th last year, can work social media and actually build up enough fans to do a small headlining tour, I assume these boys can as well. I bet Syco will keep tabs, maybe make a few connections for them if needed, but only sign them if they show any unusual momentum compared to the other half-dozen (?) boybands currently operating at that level around the UK.

(I know United Vibe still exists because Jess and Kelli-Marie both opened for them as soloists and there's a pic circulating of them together that people were using to claim the whole show was staged.)

I actually followed them on Instagram, a bunch of the members in both groups were already having very minor success there before the show and for now they all seem thrilled with the boost they've gotten for just a few weeks of work. They've been working it as hard as they can considering they're split until mid-January. The girls account has been gaining followers at a modest but consistent pace and they are nearing the size of the current smaller UK girl groups, with Jess already having more than any individual member.

The format may have done a terrible job at allowing them to realize their potential and getting people invested, but I don't think it's a hopeless starting point if they can actually deliver something decent next year.
