X Factor UK 2013

Is it the last season or what? Do I put the thread in here or in the TV section? Will Sharon finally come back?!

Not a hope in hell.

Do you think? I thought that the recent 'Sharon And Ozzy Living In Separate Homes' malarkey had the stench of "SyCo PR" all over it!!! I'd be surprised if she wasn't there, plus after Scherzinger carrying the whole show last year, they won't keep the same line-up, surely? And who else could they get?

It just seems to me that over the years they have moved away from having any kind of expertise on the panel and been desperately trying to engage the youth demographic. Sharon would be such a throwback. She's not remotely current. I could see her on BGT but I'd be really surprised if they got her back on X Factor.

Maybe I'm just against the idea because anyone other Mel B would be entirely unacceptable.

I can't decide regarding Sharon and I agree on both sides. There is all this press, plus the constant ITV appearances since she left AGT. However, quite rightly as pointed out, she doesn't fit in with the glamorous fashionable over produced young X Factor.

I don't want her back, she was absolutely useless and didn't care in the slightest. I liked it when she had a go at Steve in Season 1 but that was about it. She was generally an unlikeable vicious woman.

The show was best for me on Season 5 - the right mix of story and talent had the voice but also the 'X Factor'. I really enjoyed the peak of X Factor in Season 6 and 7 too but it's just lost the spark since Season 8 that was quite predictable after how far it went in 2010.

Really, Mel B would be perfect. Nicole's amazing, but we need a bit of good old fashioned British negativity to balance out her constant positivity about everything and everyone.

Louis is past his sell by date and Barlow's a twat, but I struggle to think who'd replace either of them.

I don't think they would dare get rid of Louis now especially if this is it, I'd like it to be the original trio just to bring things full circle but Simon acts like he's above X Factor UK now.

I completely agree that Mel B is the only sensible option, yet I guess that she's physically unable to do it, having signed up for about 10 other shows now?

Last year, with the whole Scherzinger-hiring debacle (though that obviously turned out to be a blessing in disguise), I finally realized that they simply weren't able to attract the calibre of person they wanted (using their hiring tactics). Clearly Kelly Rowland would have done another series if it was confirmed in her schedule long enough in advance. They obviously weren't enthralled by her 'popularity' and held out for a better option (Cheryl Cole? Dannii Minogue?) to the point where she took herself out of the equation and accepted an alternative job. If they're going to continuously f*ck people over and treat them badly (not just the contestants, it seems) then there must be a certain amount of wariness about throwing your hat into the ring.

Unless there's a really big name that's already confirmed but not announced, who are they left to choose from at the moment? Sharon O, Tulisa and Geri Halliwell!? And I bet they've still not told Tulisa that she's not coming back, because Nicole might drop out at the last minute and they'll need an easy replacement? Very grim indeed. I understand that it's a business, but I don't think that many of the 'performers' on the panels expect to be treated this way and it's resulted in a dearth of 'talent' on both sides of the table...

I think he pretends he is, but in reality he's chained to the failing US format and simply can't leave it until it's cancelled. All the while the UK version is sinking... I think he's lucky that Britain's Got Talent and One Direction are maintaining his aura of 'success' (however little he contributes to either!)

It seems like Sharon's the only name thats really seriously in the mix doesn't it? I can't help but think Gary, Louis, Sharon and Nicole would kill the show.

Surely Simon will go back, right? Unless he's fully committed to the show dying, I can't imagine he'll take another year off the U.K. show.

Simon
Nicole
Avril Lavigne (Maybe she'll be on the U.S. version, I'm convinced she'll be on either panel come this fall)
Max Martin

That would be a good attempt at saving the show.

Symphony

Oh God Simon would be awful. Last season was an enjoyable trainwreck.

Why are you convinced about Avril? I would love Avril and Max Martin on the panel, that sounds perfect.

People always forget that Sharon was a judge during it's lowest rating period. Bringing her back would not be a return to a "golden age" by any objective measure of what success in television actually means. The Simon/Cheryl/Dannii/Louis years were the commercial sweet spot.

RhythmNative, in your opinion, what was the reason that they ended up with Nicole last year? I guessed that Dannii was making all the right noises then screwed them over at the last moment. Hence their desperation. Would this be wildly inaccurate?

Yeah, it's completely regressive to want Sharon back and to have the old audition format. I don't get it all. It serves no other purpose than to say "hey, we're 10 years!". Lets bring back that crappy live set that looks like it's from the late eighties/early nighties while we're at it.

Simon is in rather a difficult position, in that he probably thinks his absence is the reason for the UK show's decline (it isn't) but doesn't think the US version can survive without him (it's barely surviving with him). I imagine he'll find a way to do both.

Losing 3 quarters of your most successful panel in one series change was madness. If Simon and Cheryl 'had' to leave due to joining the US version, then any TV exec thinking straight would have done all the could to keep the rest of the panel the same. But Cowell, in particular, acts on whims and hunches and it was felt that the necessary needed to give to Dannii so she could record Australia's Got Talent wasn't given.

So after Kelly flopped hard, Dannii was a logical replacement but she was playing hard ball with cash. In desperation, they figured she could miss the auditions which would give them chance to trial new people for future series while continuing negotiations with Dannii. She's returned mid-series before remember.

But they couldn't work it out, so the back up would just be to pick the person who had performed best as a stand in during the auditions.

Mel B probably had other filming commitments - but I'll be controversial here. On Aus X Factor she simply isn't very good. The UK's perception of her judging abilities are based on one auditions montage edited to make her look like an hilarious bitch. But un-edited she can seem unengaged, bored even.

Rita, Geri, Anastacia, Leona etc had all been disasters during the auditions. Sharon was still on America's Got Talent. Apart from going for a complete unknown there simply was no one else apart from Nicole.
