X Factor UK 2013

If the US version does come back next year, I would expect that they'll a) cut it down to one night, b) hire someone considerably less expensive to replace the outgoing Demi Lovato and c) make sure they develop a viable replacement so they aren't saddled with it yet again the following season.

Less expensive than Demi Lovato???

Ten weeks of the likes of Little Nicholas turning the same trick? No ta. Frustrating though the compliance to themes may be at times, at least they pull people in different directions.

A themeless series would be even more dumperbound. Just find better contestants.

The first thing they need is better contestants who could actually be a popstar - Nicholas was so X Factor 2004.

Then better themes and actually make sure they perform to the theme ie no Abi Alton funeral march version of disco songs.

But we got ten weeks of Nicholas turning the same trick anyway...

There is nothing wrong with themes, it the fact that nobody takes any notice of them and does the same 20 songs every fucking year that's the problem.

I'd like the themes to stay but they need to be good ones, this years were terrible. Also, in agreement with mump boy, if I was a contestant I would want to make myself shine and give myself moments. I can't believe how many songs were repeated in the lives this year. I nearly lost my shit when Tamera came out and did Listen, the game seemed to be ruined for her from that moment onwards.

The X Factor USA and X Factor AUS (latter in particular) did a much better job this year with song choice and production. X Factor USA's big band wasn't just 50s music either, they did Mama Knows Best and I Knew You Were Trouble.

All I really want is for the judges and the producers to champion the contestants with the most star quality. What irked me about the last series was the constant focus on finding the right voice instead of finding that special someone who had the potential to be a viable popstar. This show has only proven with the massive success of One Direction, Olly Murs, Little Mix, JLS etc that it takes a lot more than a good voice to be a popstar. You need stage presence, distinctive style, personality or other talents (rapping, dancing, playing an instrument).

Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald are talented people but they do not have the X Factor. Their voices shine but they do not. I just can't see any big success for them post the show. Sam's album having a rush release and featuring covers just shows that Simon/Syco have zero confidence in her. I read somewhere that he's planning on signing Rough Copy, I think he'll give them a bigger push.
