X-Men ‘97

I still can't believe how perfect the AOB song was incorporated when everything started to happen toward the end.
I fucking gagged when it first came on. Beau Demayo just gets it (he also has a small cameo at the gala event). Of course you’d put an AOB song in a dance scene set in the ‘90s.

This show is right up there with WandaVision and Season 2 of Loki.
Just wow!

I just couldn't believe it, utterly surreal.

This whole episode was stunning, utterly gripping. I was 100% expecting all this to happen in the three part season finale but it all playing out mid-season was shocking and terrifying. I felt numb by the time the credits rolled.

I really am loving the score to this show. I hope we get a soundtrack for it. The music especially in this latest episode elevated an already amazing piece of television.
Madelyne forging her own path and becoming her own person is so satisfying to see. That moment with Cable was everything.
She’s such a great character and I feel this show is doing a better job with her than the comics have done over the years.

Captain Britain has been a total flop era for Betsy so I would be happy to see her move on and carve out her own identity.

It definitely hasn't really stuck well, partly from her being bounced around with some mediocre writers during most of this period. I'm sure someone can do some great stuff with Betsy, she's just been a bit unlucky with those steering her story.

It makes so much sense why they had Motendo and Lifefdeath Pt.1 prior to this and why they were a bit light on drama and action. What with the Maddy episode before and then THIS to follow the series needed a bit of levity and a way to progress Storm's story without spending too much time on it.

He/Him
5 years we saw Xavier run the X-Men and none of them died. Magneto takes over and we’ve had Storm depowered, a Jean clone and multiple deaths. When he eventually comes back, he’s gonna need to have a word with them.

Yeah, no shade to her but allowing Tini Howard to write the character almost exclusively for the entire Krakoa era was a choice.

There was an interview with the series editor a few months ago where he bemoaned the fact that they hadn’t been able to service Betsy well enough or make any of the three titles she was involved in, work financially.

They do need a rethink there. She’s too good a character to waste.

When it started I was like… Happy Nation from Ace of Base... no way and the way Rogue was introduced when the song started… just wow.

Also, the song has that instrumental that has so much emotion and impact on drama scenes. And when the instrumental started with Madelyne going out you just knew something was going to happen... chills ... whoever chose that BRAVO!

Using Happy Nation as they celebrate Genosha before everything starts to go down...

So this episode took heavy inspiration from the beginning (and some later parts) of Morrison’s seminal New X-Men. With that in mind…
Emma survives the Genoshan genocide because her diamond skin developed in reaction to the assault. I wouldn’t write her off yet - the writers put her there on purpose, she “saw” something during Maddy and Scott’s exchange too. Which, I might add, is a nod to Emma and Scott’s psychic affair during New X-Men. Could just be a knowing wink to that, but they know Emma is popular…
I wouldn’t be surprised if Cable is related to a future Age of Apocalypse storyline, with Apocalypse maybe responding to the human’s assault on mutant kind?
Of course… it was Cassandra Nova in the comics who caused all this. This show has been so surprising so far I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s involved.
And as others mentioned, New X-Men focused on Jean really coming into her powers, the lines between Phoenix and Jean blurring to the point she effectively regained the cosmic power (sort of). She also gets KILLED in the end so…

Cable’s dialogue implied to me that he’s tried to stop this particular event several times but I could be misreading.
I just read it as he was trying to stop it before it happened and was too late? As if he had to stop this one thing happening before a chain reaction began.
I wonder how much we will see next week since it’s the second part of Lifedeath. I can’t see them not at least showing a tiny bit of the aftermath.

The Tini stuff was terrible and the audience just didn't seem to be taking to the direction. I'd agree on exploring a new angle for Betsy, someone needs to come along and really land an idea of what to do with her post-Kwannon. Nobody has really nailed it and I'm not convinced the Captain Britain stuff was the answer.

My god, I'm still bawling me eyes out. I don't think I've cried like that at a show since Buffy. Even with the inevitable Cable time travel shenanigans, I still can't believe they went to those places.

Also, we absolutely need more Emma serving white queen ASAP.

"Not again" seemed to suggest he tried multiple times to stop it. And my biggest worry is how much I'm gonna cry when they remove yet another character from the title sequence next week.

Wow. That episode blew me away. Beautifully animated, too. Like it was so stunning and fluid and detailed. And so well written too. I am in tears. Even knowing that they will probably embark on a mission to undo this or whatever, it still had the right emotional beats to absolutely wreck me.
This is one of the best things Disney has done with Marvel in years. Between this series and Into The Spiderverse (Which I know is Sony), I feel like animated ventures in TV and film is definitely a path forward for Marvel properties as the live action is a bit burnt out to everyone right now.
