Guys. GUYS. G U Y S. Honeymoon absolutely does NOT deserve to be the first album knocked out. I just want you all to know that the fact that Lana doesn’t have some sort of representation in the top 10 has EATEN AWAY AT ME ever since voting closed and I crunched the numbers. Fun fact: this was one of only three songs to ever hold the number 1 spot. Granted it was very brief and very early, but still. It held onto a top 5 placing until that final deluge of voters knocked it down to a disappointing and unjust finish at 17. I am honestly so shocked and appalled by these results that I haven’t even begun to put my thoughts together on this song and why it’s so great. Is it my personal number 1 from Honeymoon? No (#justiceforTerrenceLovesYou), but it’s still immaculate. It’s lush, cinematic, and utterly despondent in a way that only Lana can pull off without ever being too morose to enjoy. This song is absolutely stunning, and on its own I might not even gripe about it coming in at 17 if it weren’t the last song standing from Lana. She deserved better, but this is unfortunately a democracy, so I can’t simply state to the lot of you what good taste is and rank the songs properly myself. Poor you.

GORGEOUS. The fragile vocals and lyrics just take me to another planet. “Ever since my baby went away, it’s been the blackest day” “Looking for love, in all the wrong places. Oh my god” “Now that he’s gone, I can’t feeling nothing” “I'm on my own again." Heartbreaking and amazingly dramatic too. Lana gives me life with these catchy heartbreak songs. - @GhettoPrincess

I adore this song. My favourite song on the album. A beautiful spiraling depression. A heavenly oblivion. I haven't stopped playing this since the album was released. Generous queen gave me three exquisite
choruses each more despairing and demanding of attention than the next. It’s also not often I don't recognize a 6 mins Lana song (side eye to Cruel World). I savour every ounce of the song and even at six minutes it's gone too soon. It's relentless and just builds until the glorious outro. Maniacal "it's not one of those phases" I'm on my own again". In fact, as I'm writing this I've changed it to my 11 because I don't think Kill v Maim needs me as much. And such as this record feels like a cry for help, how can I not respond. - @sfmartin

Lana's "Love Is Hell" symphony with this latest departure causing her to slip further to the depths of hell with every passing moment. Of course it's all a bit dramatic and dreary, but she sells it with her voice like it's paradise instead of torment. Depending on my mood this one can be a struggle though. The length can hamper it by turning an atmospheric piece into a sleepy and monotonous one. - @DJHazey

I want to love this more than I do but it's lacking something that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it's a lack of definitive chorus, it just kind of edges along without ever really going anywhere, but it sits in that sinister, dreamy world that she's created that I love so much so I can't fault it too much. - @Solenciennes

I can see this one fullfilling an underdog role for this album and become the highest track in this rate. Typical dark Lana that basically gives everything her fans want. - @Sprockrooster

I’m so fucking melodramatic. I absolutely adore this. The chorus is delicious and the post-chorus is something else, the way the backing vocals echo all the ‘deepers’ and ‘harders’, as well as her own vocals on the ‘oh my god’s (yes I know). That middle-eight where it all unravels in the glimpse of the anger that so often goes together with this brand of sadness in a dizzy negative spiral. And that outro, man, “I’m on my own again”, talk about sad. It doesn’t feel like six minutes at all. Sudden surprise 11 candidate, it will go out too soon and I will cry. - @Can’t Speak French

"It's not one of those phases I'm going through / Or just a song, it's not one of them / I'm on my own again". This is all the song's about: a long, affecting, heartfelt embrace of sadness. We all love joy, feeling happy and in love, but what happens when we feel blue? We ignore it, try to dismiss it as a "phase" that'll pass sooner or later, but Lana reclaims it as an important part of her life. It's not particularly for its benefits, its potential teachings or inspirational power for songwriting; no, Lana stays on the emotional aspect of it, stressing that in order to fully be yourself you have to accept everything about yourself, even the most unpleasant parts. She projected all her hopes and securities into a man that eventually failed her, and she now has to live with the crashing realization that in the end she can only really count on herself. - @Kuhleezi

I think she sounds so beautiful on this song, she really knows how to rock a beautiful cinematic song. I think there is something about her voice in this song, where you feel the sadness in her voice, how she breaks half the time when shes talking about things. The structure of the song is some of the most interesting on the album. This has been a really incredible song to rediscover, I might actually cry on this plane ride. (I’m doing rate on a plane, yath) - @digitalkaiser

Heartbreaking. I am at loss for words. A 6-minute opus about a breakup... man, Lana did that. This is like Lykke Li's whole I Never Learn album distilled in one giant song. - @Slice of Life

I don't care much for its lyrics but the atmosphere is so otherworldly. - @diamond dogs

Can we get Lana to write The Blackest Year and dedicate it to 2016? - @ohnostalgia

I love the Billie Holiday shout out. - @AshleyKerwin

FUCK. Is this her best song?? It is isn’t it?? I’m having hot flushes here, it’s been like 5 months since I last heard this and it’s bringing it all back. I KNOW this is gonna get done wrong and I KNOW that people are gonna complain about the length, but you honestly wouldn’t even know it’s 6 minutes; to me this song exists in a time-less vacuum of opulence and lushness. The way she throws in a double chorus in a fucking mid-tempo is so savage and I’m still not over it. - @constantino

I'm...not bothered by this at all, considering the best parts of Honeymoon had been taken out already.

Living for Tove's revenge.
