AN ABSOLUTE BANGER AND A HALF. As amazing as this is, I think we all knew that all the rest of her tracks were competing for which one would be second to Gemini Feed. This was (rightfully) top 10 for a long time, and even in the end, the songs from about 13-7 were all shuffling around until the very last day. This song (as some of you pointed out) was one of the last things I ever thought to expect from Jillian, and I was absolutely floored the first time I heard it. She really did THAT. There’s just nothing to say other than this goes all the way the fuck off in a way that the rest of these ladies (bar Grimes) could only ever dream of. In a pure and just world, this would be a huge hit (but then again, Gemini Feed would’ve been too if that were the case) despite her ~indie~ status. Add to that a proper pop star (on a budget) video with choreo, lewks, and a generous helping of star power to boot and we’ve got one of the best singles to be released last year. Iconique. I can’t complain too much, but it really is a shame this couldn’t quite crack top 10 in the end.
This is a bop, that beat is dirty and I love it. I’m basically living for the attitude, vocals and pretty much everything in this track. - GhettoPrincess
Superb track. A real step forward for her production and sound. Bitter, angry and intoxicating. I just wish it was longer and the chorus was repeated one more time. If she’s ever going to get a hit, it would be this. - sfmartin
FUCK. YES. This is so dramatic and brooding, it conjures up dark heroes like Jessica Jones and the ladies of the Sin City films, I adore this song, just utterly arresting and a standout in her discography I think. - Solenciennes
If it was not for Marina or Lana in this, it would have been 11. So what makes it my fave song from this year in this rate? Because this song is so fucking in your face and does not give you a moment to take a break. Like an oncoming train in the tunnel. You see it coming, but it is here faster than you would think. Sonically should not like this, but BANKS makes it work for me. - Sprockrooster
I should love this more because the surprising uptempo nature of it becomes a breathe of fresh air for me. She raps biting lyrics over sharp electronics which is something I never expected to hear on this album. It’s quite clear that she reached a boiling point with the relationship here and is left talking herself out of this dead-end journey rather than continue to try and save something or someone who just won’t listen. - DJHazey
I do like this, but maybe the production could lighten up a bit? It works, but it’s missing something and I don’t know what. I know these are just nothingy criticisms but uuuuugh. - Can’t Speak French
This bop is that militant moody somper that I loooooove. I think this is Banks at her best, most confident, most fun. It’s a gorgeous melk of kooky, catchy and full of fire. - digitalkaiser
Come through Rap Chanteuse Miss Lian B! I love how this just goes all out! Like she’s announcing, “You want me to define what a trainwreck is? Imma show you instead.” And it’s so catchy too. I can totally see myself dancing to this like I was a 40 year old divorcee that just killed my ex 20 minutes ago. - Slice of Life
The beginning of this track sounds like something that Zara Larsson would sing for real, but obviously it doesn’t take Banks long to make the song hers anyway. - eccentricsimply
A BANGER. Jillianneeds to let loose like this more often. When her voice gets a bit shrieky and grainy during the frantic chorus. YES. - NecessaryVoodoo
“There’s no fixing of the problem when you’re talking to an idiot” made me scream. Queen of reading my mind. - ohnostalgia
Banks goes OFF on this one and I absolutely love it. A great song to sing along to and get some aggression out while you do it. - Oleander
The title says it all. - He
Yusss. I’m very much here for Banks’ aggressive side. - Guy
This brooding BOP! The verses drag this down a tad but thankfully the chorus more-than compensates for it! The little flourishes in the productoin make all the difference. - constantino
Even if you don’t stan for this as much as I do, you gotta give her credit for the absolute nerve of releasing a banger like this. I bet nobody saw it in her to release a song like this, yet it totally makes sense as a BANKS track. It has that claustrophobic quality, it’s drenched with that take-no-prisoners POV we’ve learnt to love from her, but unlike many of her other tracks, it’s also insanely fun. I refuse to believe she didn’t get her life recording this when lip-syncing to the chorus or trying miserably your best 101 rapper impression on the verses is so life-affirming. In short, a jaw-droppingly spectacular (b)anger. Love it when artists surprise me like that. - Kuhleezi
