Looking at Wikipedia (lazy I know) it seems She's So Unusual sold over 22 million worldwide which I'm very surprised about. Always thought she was a US-centric act, even with that first album.

Faith doesn't seem to be on the list of best sellers but it must have shifted more than 20 million surely?

Maybe his appeal to the Black American audience dwindled as his music became more pop/rock, and his appearance got whiter?
Probably. Also, after Thriller every album he did looked like a flop!

I always thought Bad was a stronger album than Thriller overall... The latter did have 2 stand out career songs in Beat It and Billie Jean, though. These were better than anything on Bad.

It looks like it did outsell Bad in the US by some margin. Always found it weird Bad (and Dangerous) did far better internationally than in the US.
He started to lose me around the time of Dangerous. A handful of great songs, but too many 6 minute plus, tuneless 'funk' numbers.

I don't think he did an album under 75 minutes long ever again after this!

Bad sounded like a million dollars, but I felt the songs weren't always up to it; at least half of them wouldn't have made it onto Thriller for me. Dangerous was overlong, schizophrenic and suffered from bizarre single choices, but it's my favourite MJJ album.

I voted for Like A Virgin, but Human League's Dare really should be there, it just came in a #1 on Classic Pop's top 50 albums of the 80s. I'd still have picked Like A Virgin.

As a run of singles you can't beat Black Or White, Remember The Time, In The Closet and especially Who Is It. I choose to ignore Jam ever happened. Combined with the videos they were my favourite Jackson era.

Control is my favourite 80s album. It’s short and sweet, vintage yet fresh, but above all, a great snapshot into the experiences of a newly liberated and confident young woman. Love all the songs but ‘Nasty’, ‘The Pleasure Principle’ and ‘Let’s Wait Awhile’ are my top three.

I initially read this as "Love all the songs but Nasty" and I was all like Guuurrrrrrrlllllllll?

I went purely for my favourite album, as opposed to the best one... Like A Virgin is just pop fluff, but so many childhood memories and feelings.

It's a shame the poll choices here are limited to 10. Then again, I could have had 50 more options and still have left something out... Agree that 'Dare' should have been in. It's easy to forget how many albums were sold back then. Now, people are raving about Adele's success, but in 1987 alone there huge multi-platinum albums like 'Whitney', 'Bad', 'Faith', 'Hysteria' and 'Tango In The Night' all in the charts at the same time!

What I remember about 'Dangerous' is the over-long songs, the clanking drum sound that ran all the way through it and the creepy album artwork, but I do think 'Black Or White' was Jackson's last great single.

10 years later, 'Invincible' would suffer from the same MJ excesses, but I really like that album, though!

I agree. Just 9 tracks long (10 if you bought the later edition), but a great pop blast. I even forgave her the cover of 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore'!

My definitive list of 80s albums would certainly include Tango In The Night. Forget Rumours, that was the best thing Fleetwood Mac ever did! Not a bad song on it.

I would also include the London Boys' The Twelve Commandments of Dance but fear I may be on my own with that one...

Mirage is my favourite Mac album. The first one of theirs I bought. Sadly, it only sold about 10 copies here so it gets overlooked!
