Your Life On Popjustice!

Discussion in 'Off Topic' started by Big Bang, Dec 21, 2012.

As we are approaching the end of another year, I think we should try this again!

    So basically:

How much time do you spend on here?

How much is it part of your real life?

How did you find this place?

    What made you sign up?

What do you enjoy most about this place?

    Has anything changed over time?

What's your life on Popjustice like?

that boy is a monster likes this.
  2. "Has anything changed over time"

Popjustice changes all the time, and it sadly happens that the changes over the past year or so haven't been good at all for me! I come on less and less due to the number of posters I actually like decreasing rapidly, through them leaving or coming on less etc etc.

  3. I'm still just as addicted as I've always been! I spend way too much time on here haha.

I think it started ever since I discovered there was a world outside of the Pop & Justice section.

I haven't noticed many posters leaving/posting less in the places I frequent but I remember the forum being a bit dead in general after the switch-over and that put me off at the time. The more active it is the more I come.

    Rmx

I'm online several hours a day and it's pretty much the most important and consistent thing in my life.

    Sad!

  5. Eh, I just sit here refreshing "New Posts" all day.

  6. How much time do you spend on here?

Any night that I'm not out, I'm here.

How much is it part of your real life?

It's my secret shame. I turn off all the lights, crawl under my duvet and watch the hours fly by.

How did you find this place?

A 2009 Popjustice article about 'Memory of You'.

What do you enjoy most about this place?

The fact that as time goes by and you become a more established poster things become so much more interesting as you develop jokes with posters and become more aware of others' tastes and vice versa. Once you know how horrid jinzo, Vas' and playboy's tastes are, how wonderful IMHO, Itty and Ensnare's tastes are and people become aware of your own impeccable taste, everything becomes more fun. I do like seeing new posters that contribute in both positive (Keifer3194, Teeindle) and crazy (sajjadali!) ways. I like everything really.

    Has anything changed over time?

The forum has died down over the past year, for sure. I wouldn't, however, say it's really affected my enjoyment in the long run although at first it took months of adjustment. Things have worked out, in the end, I guess. Also, Mr. PJ's taste has obviously plummeted. People, thankfully, seem more aware of the awful state mainstream pop happens to be in, which can only be a good thing.

  7. In regards to this, we've lost a lot of people but I feel the forum is a lot more tight-knit because of it.

With less people you ultimately see more of those who remain so you get to know people better, and like you said that's where the in-jokes develop and it gradually becomes fun again.

  8. How much time do you spend on here?

A good 2-3 hours a day. A quick stampede through my ~subscribed threads~ and a sniff around the new topics and my PMs.

How much is it part of your real life?

Scarily so. I have 7/8 of these people on actual real life Facebook.

How did you find this place?

I can't remember. The Batman signal?

    What made you sign up?

I remember it being the X Factor live shows threads.

What do you enjoy most about this place?

It's the one place on the internet that's achieved the right balance of smart, funny and brilliant that's able to grasp the Cher Lloyd worship.

    Has anything changed over time?

Forum armageddon! Things have not been the same. I was there at the exact moment the whole place shut down. I cluctched tight onto my rosaries as me, Mvnl, graffifi my soul, 3Xs and a few others inspected the wreckage for the first ever time.

Cher Lloyd! The power of Cherstianity and our devout worship in the Monastchery have evolved the 16 year old girl from Malvern into X Factor megastar and UK legend into WORLDWIDE superpower. No one expected it, no one could actually believe it was happening- but every day is magical.

The ignore function! Best thing ever. The one post-armageddon thing I truly think is an improvement from before.

That glitch in the forum right at the start that let you "like" a popstar multiple times! I have Cher Lloyd 21x on my board as favourite popstars. 21 for the album that's most comparable to my own fave's predicted sales.

The people! You're all a legend in your own way. We've amassed the most humourous, intelligent and best-looking people from the backwaters of the pop Internet here. It's a community where people actually chat about their personal lives and chat like any normal friends would do rather than it just being about music.

What's your life on Popjustice like?

My life is excellent. I love this place. It's a right good little getaway from the normal, Cher Lloyd-ambivalent world.

Here, people just 'get' you. For better or for worse, we've all got our own little idiosyncracies. They're made centre-stage rather than quietly ignored.

Also, the Sticks + Stones thread is the actual incarnation of paradise. It's a loopy, warped shrine to the world's foremost pop-cultural icon. I always feel like I should run in with a mop and brush to keep the place clean, tidy and free of mess.

  9. How much time do you spend on here?
This really depends on what's currently going on in my life. If I'm in the midst of a placement then obviously won't be on much, but I'll still squeeze in a few minutes to read my favourite threads. If I'm on holiday (as I currently am) then the tab for it is open whenever I'm on my laptop aka far too often!

How much is it part of your real life?
I suppose my boyfriend knows that I come on here, and I've met jinzo several times. But it's more that I've been introduced to so much music thanks to the place. I reckon that if I wasn't a member of PJ that I would probably only have been aware of about 5 albums being released this year, whereas I think I actually downloaded around 30!

How did you find this place?
Discovered it when I used to do google searches for pop gossip. The site wasn't being updated often (some point in 2009/10) so I didn't really understand what it's purpose was (since then I realised the front page is brilliant). I noticed the forum and was astounded by how similar people were in terms of their love for Pop, and how eloquent and witty the posting was compared to any other forum.

    What made you sign up?
I'm sure it was the Alejandro video, and that I signed up to defend it.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
The humour. The fact that it's completely enhanced my love for Pop. The acts I've been introduced to. LEAK NIGHTS!! And, of course, many of the members. Mutual love for Mushroom, obviously jinzo and then there's all the Gaga fans (who by a streak of luck happen to be some of the most eloquent and witty members), and anyone I've shared PM's with, and some that I haven't yet (I don't want to namecheck any more people, because I'll forget someone or seem cliquey, which I'm really not!) I love a lot of the new people, love a lot of the self-proclaimed "dinosaurs". etc etc. I love you all (except you... you know who you are).

    Has anything changed over time?
It has it's peaks and troughs. I'm very grateful for the cull of trouble-makers that happened recently as it really changed the atmosphere of the forum for the better.

  10. I literally check up on PJ every time I open a browser. I'd say I'm far more of a backseat poster, it might sound weird but I often just sit and read other people's posts and only really comment when I feel the need to. If I commented all the time, I'd feel I need to check back and reply to any possible replies I get and well, considering the amount of time I usually spend on here, that's probably not healthy.

I always visit the threads that matter though (e.g. Ellie Goulding, Frank Ocean, Katy B, Off-topic etc etc) but since it's usually The Saturdays and Madonna tour threads or some other insignificant thread (~) that are constantly bumped up, I generally have little to do in the main forum!

So whilst I view from the outside a lot of the time, I feel like I know people on here (as much as you can know someone in an internet forum) regardless. I've got one or two on Facebook as well, and I'm still one of those people who gets excited at a PM!

To sum up, I love PJ because it's somewhere I can actually discuss brilliant music and get an enthusiastic response. A lot of my friends couldn't care less for Girls Aloud, Solange or Katy B, and this saddens me. So thank God for PJ!

  11. How much time do you spend on here?
I always have a PJ tab open and routinely check my favourite threads/the off topic section for new posts. I spend a lot of my college breaks reading threads on my ipod.

How much is it part of your real life?
Since my social life is virtually non-existant, it's a fairly big part. It's really great hearing other peoples opinions on topics you actually care about, I can't do small talk with 'real people' so it's nice to be socialising in some form.

How did you find this place?
Looking at the Sweet 7 thread when Wear My Kiss was being released.

    What made you sign up?
Wanting to discuss the Sugababes/Britney without the need for 'dragging' and trolling you get with other forums.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
Everybody has their own little characteristics and the members are genuinely intriguing. There's little talk of sales and 'status' on the forum, most members like the music for the way it sounds and not just because it's their faves latest release.

People also tend to make more of an effort in their posts here too, writing properly and expressing themselves articulately. It really helps you build an idea of the person themselves and how they think+feel about things. There's so many diverse and individual personalities on here, it's really entertaining watching you all interact.

    Has anything changed over time?
Like others mentioned, the changeover made everything different. Quite a few great members don't really visit anymore, which is sad.

I don't really talk to any other posters personally anymore through PM's or in threads. I got my first ever PM since the server switch this week! Whereas I had quite a lot last year.

It's also fun looking at posters who joined when I did, now being the more popular and respected members. Knowing how shy and reserved some of them used to be.

What's your life on Popjustice like?
I tend to just observe the forum these days, reading mostly the same threads for entertainment. Still love it though.

  12. How much time do you spend on here?
More time than is probably healthy.

How much is it part of your real life?
Anytime I'm bored it's my first port of call.

How did you find this place?
Linked to a Diana Vickers article on the front page.

    What made you sign up?
Everyone seemed nice and funny, and has similar music taste to me.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
Discovering new music when a random thread pops up in Pop & Justice. I probably wouldn't have half my favourite albums if it weren't for that.

    Has anything changed over time?
When I first stumbled upon the forum, I couldn't sign up (apparently due to an influx of spambots), so actually having an account is a big change. I'm also a bit more comfortable with posting now, even if I embarrass myself like in the photoshop thread. And having a gif avatar is fun too!

What's your life on Popjustice like?
I'm still trying to break my lurking habits and instead try and contribute to a discussion, which explains my fairly low post count, but overall it's probably my favourite forum on the internet.

  13. How much time do you spend on here?
It's always the first tab I open when I get on the computer, and I spend about 50% my online time here!

How did you find this place?
The "glacial" Born This Way review, hahaha!

    What made you sign up?
I lurked in the forum reading everything for a long time. I loved the atmosphere, how seriously pop music is taken here, and the humour, so I decided to join.

  14. How much time do you spend on here?

About two hours a day, I'd say. I'll read things and then post if I feel like it. If I feel like I posted something that's going to spark a conversation I'll keep the tab open, but otherwise I leave.

How much is it part of your real life?

I have two people added on Facebook and wouldn't mind more. No one really lives around me though, which is a bit sad given the complete lack of tastes in these parts. 90% of Nickelback sales are sure to come from my region.

How did you find this place?

I found a write-up on the main page about Femme Fatale prior to release and I fell in love.

    What made you sign up?

I lingered for a little while, but I really wanted to get involved once I realized there was a place that really appreciated Blackout as one of the finest pop albums of the 00's.

What do you enjoy most about this place?

The people. I feel like my sense of humor doesn't translate well through text, so I tend to avoid jokes, but I've found myself in tears before at some of the things people say.

    Has anything changed over time?

I feel semi-involved! People seem to understand my stanning for Taylor and either ignore or appreciate accordingly. I feel like I've somewhat developed a niche for myself in that way. It's nice being 'known' for something on the forum.

  15. How much time do you spend on here?
Much more than I should. Whenever I have something important to do I come on here.

How much is it part of your real life?
Other than my occasional tendency to track forum members down and install spy cameras in their kitchen sinks, I'd probably say 'not at all'.

How did you find this place?
An interview with Kelly Clarkson years and years ago which I found hilarious. Didn't bother with the forum and then when I did sign ups were strictly forbidden.

    What made you sign up?
    Crystal meth.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
    Probably Playboy69.*insert heart symbol here*

    Has anything changed over time?
Being able to actually sign up was a change I suppose.

What's your life on Popjustice like?
An endless struggle to make people see that Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and the goblin from One Direction are harbingers of doom.

  16. I am EXACTLY the same! Thanks for saving me typing that all out, and you've probably done it far more eloquently too...

Like others have said, I lurked for quite a while before plucking up the courage to post (some of these threads get quite scary!) but for me its the passion for music and the such like that posters have that really draws me and keep me interested and make me want to add my fourpennies worth...

How much time do you spend on here?
A LOT. I'm always posting somewhere; occasionally I venture into the actual music part of Popjustice to stan Beyonce but that part terrifies me so I tend to stay in Random Thoughts and the Stuff parts, I'm always lurking somewhere. I'm like a stalker.

How much is it part of your real life?
Not that much. I've only been here since July so I haven't had a chance to make friends; I know there are some people here who don't like me and I don't like them so it's fine. HOWEVER. Popjustice introduced me to Dance for You, Schoolin' Life, Real Housewives and Happy Endings, which I will be FOREVER grateful for.

How did you find this place?
Popjustice's amazing (ding!) twitter which I started following in March. I came to the forum for the first time in June and fell in love instantly then signed up, but had to wait a month to post. It was TORTURE.

    What made you sign up?
The humour for sure; on my first day when I signed up I read the Eastenders thread from 2009 to now and it was flaw free. Then I went to the other parts and read those and fell in love too; the people here were smart and plus I'd just been banned from Digital Spy so I was looking for a new place. The contrast here of how close everyone was and the amazing humour and the fact everyone had their shit together drew me in.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
The humour again. People really seem to get each other here and the humour is just my type of humour where I get it too. I'm at the point now where I know the people here well enough to say that I know if someone's being funny or just a c**t and it makes things a LOT easier.

    Has anything changed over time?
I was new back in July so didn't really know anyone and didn't really filt in, but now I feel like I'm one of the gang. I think there's people who do like me and there are people who don't and I know who they are. There's people I don't like and would rather set myself on fire than speak too; but I think being here for 5 months now has let me be a lot more honest! I was a bit afraid when I first joined because I didn't know who was who.

What's your life on Popjustice like?
Weird. Some days I love this place from the pit of my stomach; some days I want to delete my account and never come back. Most days I love it though since the people are so chill and cool. I guess it depends on who I speak to because, like I said before, there's people I like and don't. As long as I speak to people I like and who are nice then I'll be happy! I'm glad I found this place, though. It's a part of my routine now and I wouldn't have it any other way.

  18. How much time do you spend on here?
It varies. I go through periods where I'm almost entirely ignoring the forum (literally just coming on to PM) and then massive comebacks, followed by gradually going off the place again. I'd say on AVERAGE I spend 1-2 hours a day on here, which needless to say is a lot less than before.

How much is it part of your real life?
I can't say it is! I've done the adding internet friends on Facebook thing elsewhere, but never here. Which I don't mind. And unless I've somehow ran into citoig/Resi/miklc, I've never had a "real life" interaction with a forumer.

How did you find this place?
Looking for news on Britney's seventh album, naturally!

    What made you sign up?
I believe I started as I meant to go on - posting about how amazing Little Boots is.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
    big bang

    Has anything changed over time?
Fo' sho'. I feel like the "old guard" have almost all either moved on or changed to adapt to the evolving forum personality, and that's definitely been to the detriment of the board. The positive of that is that I've been spending less time in Off Topic (which I'm sure you're all happy about) and in P&J, so I get to focus on the fabulous Lists + Charts section.

What's your life on Popjustice like?
HEALTHY. I still think I CARE a little too much, the forum is very much set in its ways but I continue to hope it will change, foolishly. I probably enjoy the forum less than I used to but at the same time I'm probably less shit than I used to be AND I brought the (fabulous) Popjustice Song Contest to you all. So, you're welcome everyone.

  19. I just remembered that originally I only checked the front page, completely unaware of the amazing forum that was hidden away! Then I made an account to stan for Britney and Girls Aloud during 07/08/09 I think, and then I left, fell completely in love with Big Bang, noticed a K-Pop thread and made a grand return as big bang! So in total I guess I've been around for like 4/5 years. Christ.

My impact on here can only be compared to the Big Bang that started the Universe.

And I love the variety of this place! Going into Pop & Justice to check the Sticks + Stones tea, going into K-Pop to make absolutely sure everyone knows Taeyang is mine, going into TV to stan for Amy Pond (alone), going into Lists to see jinzo's latest unpopular opinion, and then going into Off Topic to make fun of RJF being brought to tears by Take A Bow.

Well at least someone is being truthful.

How much time do you spend on here?
I don't know, maybe 1-2 hours? It really depends. I tend to have a window with the forum always open, though.

How much is it part of your real life?
Apart from my occasionally breaking into Nuhdeen speak, not really in any significant way.

How did you find this place?
I read that something called "Popjustice" had reviewed About You Now, and I thought it was some kind of weird insider website thingy. And then I noticed it had a forum and browsed for a while, before becoming a member maybe a year later?

    What made you sign up?

    I honestly do not recall.

What do you enjoy most about this place?
The people and the fact that there is a sense of humor about everything, and a place for all kinds of insane pop fandoms to exist.

    Has anything changed over time?
It got weird in 2009 but things appear to have settled down.

What's your life on Popjustice like?
No one liked me until they realized that everything I say is tongue in cheek. Well, mostly. And even now only some people like me. FUCKDAHATERZ.
