The BBC are revealing their Top 5 Sound of 2008 everyday this week and then the full Top 10 will be revealed on Friday.

At the moment it's

5. Foals
4. Glasvegas
3. The Ting Tings

I'm guessing Duffy and Adele for the other two places.

Well done me.

The top 10:
1. Adele
2. Duffy
3. The Ting Tings
4. Glasvegas
5. Foals
6. Vampire Weekend
7. Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
8. Black Kids
9. MGMT
10. Santogold

I have decided that these lists piss me off. It means that everyone concentrates on them as the big new things instead of letting everyone just do their own thing on their own merit. Instead we get all this hype and it means that basically 2008 has already been decided for us instead of letting everything run it's course and letting the public choose for themselves. These lists are clearly made for lazy media types who can't be bothered to look and find new bands for themselves (for example Vicky Newton's Bizarre R.I.P.) and they restrict the radio stations and magazines/newspapers.

There's always a bunch of surprises though, thank God. Each year I wonder how many artists I will adore by Decemeber that I have not heard of in January. Let's hope a LOT.

I'd ignored all these mentions of Alphabeat as I didn't think it would be something I'd like it but I watched that video on the front page and it was a pretty cool song. So I think they'll do good things.

Adelle and Duffy will be hyped endlessly by Radio 1 and Adelle will be hailed as the new Amy Winehouse. I do like her song actually...

Luigi Masi. Cool pop/electro/R&B type stuff. Very impressive.

I can honestly see Same Difference turning into Steps 2008 if the single goes well.

Rachel Stevens needs to make a comeback ASAP. I miss her. :(

Mr William Young needs to pull his finger out as well.

Lady Emma of Bunton needs to take advantage of Spice Hype and become crazily successful like she deserves to be. And she needs to include All That You'll Be on album #4.

I can't think of any others...will Beyonce whip out her disco album this year? And will Rihanna release another album in record-breaking time?

Nicole Atkins [tip]
Linda Kiraly [tip]
Gia Farrell [tip]
Esmee Denters [tip]
Esthero (hope she releases something) [looks forward to]
No Doubt [looks forward to]
Janet [looks forward to]
Nikka Costa [looks forward to]
Mariah Carey [looks forward to]
Kelly Clarkson (supposed poppy album) [looks forward to]
Nicole Scherzinger (hides in shame) [looks forward to]

So now Natalie Imbruglia has ended her marriage after 4 years.

So, the news is.. Natalie Imbruglia committed suicide?

How is that in any way funny? For somebody who's clearly a fan, it's a disgusting thing to say.

It is not meant to be funny.

Yes Adele is talented but i can't listen to that song of hers the full way through, her voice just grates on me.
Duffy on the other hand seems alright, wouldn't mind listening to a full album of hers.

The Brunettes might make it big too with the exposure on that Hollyoaks ad.
Hopefully Luciana too.

I don't get this Luciana woman. She just shouts some vague tune in a chavvy accent. And she's turning up everywhere and its getting on my nerves.

After seeing Duffy on Jools Holland last night i'm really impressed by her and hope she does well. Obviously i'm looking forward to Madonna's new stuff, i just hope it can live up to Confessions, although i'll probably end up completely loving it whatever it's like

I thought she was rubbish, and totally out sung by that other singer she dueted with.

I know people are touting Duffy as being an amazing talent, but I don't see it. She has an alright voice but her songs are completely dated and lacklustre. Rockferry seems to have been knocking around for ages. Who knew she came to fame via a Welsh Pop Idol?

My new favourites for 2008 and Temposhark and Laura Marling. They've both been knocking around for a while but they both release their first proper albums in the next couple of months, so I'm hoping they start to get some more recognition.

For the best of them, download Laura's "New Romantic" and Temposhark's "Knock Me Out". I dare you not to be impressed!

the ting tings, i love them! also have been described as being 'placed somewhere between the go! team and girls aloud' (awesome) by the Times....

The 'big new things' of the year that we hear from places like Radio 1 tend to be the people I end up hating. They're either bland acoustic singer-songwriters or a crap indie band. I'm not dismissing anyone that has been mentioned because I don't write things off before I've heard them. But I'm wondering if Popjustice might come up with a more promising list.

Will Young (i truly hope he releases something new soon. I miss his voice. Perhaps someone can confirm this?)

As at 2 November 2007, Young is in LA working on his fourth album according to his official site. He has already amassed a huge number of tracks from which he'll be making a shortlist for the album.

Thanks stefchapman! Just the news I needed! This is gonna be awesome I know it!

Enough with the indie/singer-songwriter crap. My vote goes to Luigi Masi, Same Difference and of course, Rachel Stevens.

I agree!!! I'm getting all excited over the Jonah album! Isabel Guzmans new CD and of course the return of Pay-TV. They are on the cuff of relaunching themselves. Look at their site:

http://www.paytv.se/

Check for updates on the site soon....its going to change...
