Zayn - Room Under the Stairs

No luck securing tickets for the pre-sale for his London show. WHY is the universe against me? First no luck with the signing and now no luck with the gig - I DESERVE THIS!!!!

I'll try my luck at general release on Saturday.

Ticket prices seem to be around £64

It's crazy that I wanna try to go to this after Tate in Milan because I'm dying to see him live - this might be my only chance! I shall fly into London via Milan and then fly out after the show is over IF I can get tickets!

Just listened again and...

I can't get past that accent. It's very much there. There are some nice country soundscapes but I'm not sure why and it feels very trend-hoppy to slip into country and then he somehow puts on a country accent/voice which is just so off-putting. His voice is fantastic to listen to and here it sounds like it's something else, which is a shame. There are a few interesting productions and melodies, but that's about it. I'm not sure why but it does put one more release to his contract.

I have to say, I applaud him for doing a show in London and wish I could have gone. But I'm not expecting a lot besides the new album.

Dreaming - is just there... It's mid/slow, fine but nothing special. Towards the end there is some lovely singing.
What I Am - we know. It's fine in terms of the album.
Grateful - another mid-tempo / slower. These days I needed no restrictions, feel like I'm finding new addiction.
Alienated - we know this one too.
My Woman - easy but a bit meh.
How It Feels - also slow. It's just him with a piano in the beginning and then grow a bit more.
Stardust - Goes a bit faster than the rest, which makes it "nice listening experience." I like this one most and it has good melodies. Also his voice is better here. Feels like stardust, floating all around us. Shooting right across us. Big black sky (can't make that last one clearly). Enjoyable guitar solo in the bridge and sweet tingle ending.
Gates of Hell - Just a guitar and him and sometimes he just mumbles I don't like you very much, but I keep ???. It mentions drinking and goes nowhere.
Birds on a Cloud - Starts a bit faster too. A nice guitar in the backing. That's about it.
Concrete Kisses - The end is lovely where he vocalizes a bit and it ends sweet. Hmm.
False Starts - no comments
The Time - well just goes, slow.
Something in the Water - Fine track
Shoot at Will - Slow, guitar, vocals are better.
Fuchsia Sea - Slow too... It does not really go anywhere.

Haven’t given this a full listen yet, but Something In The Water is great. So that’s at least one track on here that really works for me and has that R&B sound.

Something In The Water and Grateful are actually very good.

False Starts, Fuchsia Sea and The Time are also varying degrees of great for me. But the latter in particular is still plagued by some very odd vocal decisions that occur all over the album.

I guess I understand the single choices because they clearly signify the soundscape of the album. But if they'd gone for any of the above I'd have been less disheartened and it wouldn't have felt like such a departure.
